Branding for OMSI Permafrost Exhibit


Super honored to have been asked to assist OMSI in the branding of their newest exhibit “Under the Arctic, Digging into Permafrost.” This is a traveling exhibit set to go to many museums around the nation, complete with many fun interactives including a super cool replica permafrost tunnel, hands on lab for the kids, and stories of the community living with thawing permafrost.

The exhibit focuses on Alaska where the thaw of this very old ice is sadly dislodging communities as highlighted by the “first climate refugees” by guardian.com. Please note permafrost is not to be confused with glaciers. The real tunnel can be found in Fairbanks, Alaska where scientists take small groups on tours to experience first hand a real life mammoth tusk and an ancient squirrel nests trapped in the ice. As we are loosing this very important and old ice scientist perform research studies to learn as much as they can before permafrost becomes a thing of myth. The exhibit aims to shine a light on many of these aspects and explore how it will affect the region with its demise.

For the exhibit I was honored to assist the OMSI team with the logo design and illustration for many of the diagrams and art used throughout the exhibit. I have to say I am pretty excited to see it come to life. I really think it will be a fun exhibit with a whack-a-carbon game and an engineering challenge demonstrating the affects of sinking earth as permafrost thaws. In all the fun, I wonder if we may take a moment to think and consider our own carbon foot print, and how we can make small adjustments to help. Enjoy
